Slow Food Springfield Presents: Rustic Red Poultry and Produce Farm Tour
June 3rd
9am-11am
Spend a morning on the farm and learn what a day in the life of chickens, ducks, geese and turkeys is like as told by our beloved friend, Sonja Solomonson. She will bring the details of her farm to life in her descriptive narrative as we walk around and meet her birds. Her flock is special in that they are all heritage breeds, many cataloged in the Slow Food Ark of Taste due to their dwindling populations. Farms such as Rustic Red Poultry and Produce play a crucial role in the preservation of rare poultry breeds. Come learn about cute, fascinating Buckeyes chickens, Shetland ducks and geese, Beltsville Small White turkeys and more! This is a great outing for kids.
After the tour, we will gather informally for a light picnic. Sonja also happens to be a professionally trained cook and plans to provide Buckeye chicken salad and deviled duck eggs. Please be sure to bring lawn chairs for your family members if you plan to stick around for lunch.
FREE for kids, $5 for Slow Food members, $10 for non-members.
